ADVENTURES IN BABYSITTING

CHARACTERS:
Caley: babysitter/cousin-in-law/me
Trinity: mother/wife/cousin-in-law
Rileigh: big sister, 5-year-old
Khloe: little sister, 3-year-old
Bentley: little brother, 1.5-month-old
{Husbands, Wes and Thomas: usually at work}

SETTING:
Cousin-in-laws' home that we're staying in while Thomas does an internship here in Fort Collins, CO.

----------

The day after moving in...
Rileigh to me: "Do you have any kids?"
Trinity: "Rileigh, if Caley had kids, she would have brought them with her."
Khloe: "Do you want kids?"
Me: "Yes, Khloe. Very much so."
Khloe: "Do you have one in your tummy?"
Rileigh: "You should have one tomorrow."

While sitting around the table eating lunch a few weeks ago, Khloe asks me, "Caley, what are you going to be for Halloween?"
"A nerd" I say.
"What's a nerd?" asks Khloe...her mom looks at me with that smile that says, good luck explaining that one!
"Umm..." I struggle, thinking to myself, how do I tell a 3-year-old what a nerd is? I don't want her calling someone who's dressed different than her a 'nerd'
"I'm going to dress and do my hair all silly..."
Change of subject.

As we're enjoying a wonderful dinner together around the table tonight, Khloe comes back from the bathroom in a sprint. "There are monsters in the bathroom!" She explains.
"How many?" Her dad asks.
"Four." She says.
"What color are they?" He asks.
"Brown." She giggles.
"Were they in the toilet?" He smiles.
"Yes." She giggles again.
"Did you flush them all down the toilet?" He laughs.
"Yes I did."

Another night at the dinner table we hear a funny noise from Khloe's chair.
"No boofering at the table, Khloe." as everyone tries not to giggle.
Thomas and I look at each other.
"It's our word for farting" says Wes in a whisper.
Khloe is then excused to leave the room and take care of business, except it's louder this time and funnier. She gets back and we're all laughing...now it's a daily occurrence.

As we're getting ready to start FHE, Trinity asks Rileigh to close eyes for the prayer.
"But it's the opening prayer, Mom. That means you keep them open for the opening prayer and close them for the closing prayer."
Makes sense, doesn't it? ;)

I'm sure I'll be adding more...stay tuned!

I'm grateful for the many lessons that these little girls teach me everyday. The are adorable!

  1. My little cousins ask me all the time when we are going to have kids, it is so cute. (The older cousins ask too but it is not nearly as cute.)It is fun when you get to share those precious family moments.
