I rode the bus to school that morning and no one said anything about it. There were murmurings about it in the halls, but I didn't quite get it...until I saw the news in first period. I was in Mr. Earley's English Class. I sat on the left side of the classroom near the back with tears running down my face.
My little brother was only 5 months old. I had just started high school. I was a cheerleader. I thought I was so cool. But, as I sat and watched, I realized the most important things in life were my family and friends, not being a cheerleader or running with the popular crowd.
We watched the news in every class period. I remember laying my head on my desks throughout the day saying heart-felt prayers for everyone affected and for my family to be safe. I didn't know what else to do for them.
I will never forget that day. I'm grateful to live in this wonderful and beautiful country where I feel safe and protected. Thank you to all that give of their time, family members, and lives to keep our country free. You, too, will never be forgotten.
