Hey guys, how do you like my newest accessory? haha.
So yesterday was another day of firsts for me. Work was crazy busy, as always, and that night was our Young Women in Excellence program. I left work about 30 minutes early to get home and get stuff together to get the room all decorated for the party.
As I was walking to the train station, I stepped into the crosswalk on 4th South and 5th West just after the walking signal turned on. Behind me to the left, a car stopped at the red light prepared to turn right. As I started my way into the crosswalk, he started his way to the right and didn't see me and hit me.
The left side of my body smacked into his car then I bounced off the hood onto the ground into the other lane. It all happened so fast, but I immediately tried to crawl back to the curb and his car so no other cars coming around us would hit me. He got out and made sure I was awake and okay and called 911. He felt so bad and I felt so bad...it was so unfortunate. I called Thomas and my mom and let them know what happened so Thomas could meet us.
A firetruck came up 4th and the EMT's came over to ask me my name, what day of the week it was, what city I was in and all that jazz. I told him that this kind of stuff doesn't happen to me. He replied and said there's a first time for everything...haha, gee thanks.
The ambulance came shortly after and when I told them that I had a head and neck ache, they leaned me back onto the stretcher, put on a neck brace, and strapped me on. I was loaded into the ambulance and escorted by the sweetest girl. When I told her I was an interior designer she asked if I knew a girl named Hillaree and we came to find out I went to school with her and she was roommates with her. It was good to have something to talk about besides what had happened.
We got to the University of Utah's ER and they wheeled me into room 7 while I stared at the ceiling on the way. We had to take out my earrings and my cardigan while strapped to that board...such a treat. Thomas made it shortly after. By that time the left side of my face was so swollen, he didn't even know it was me at first.
After some more questions and inspections, they determined that I should get a CT scan to make sure I didn't have any fractures in my face or spine. Both were clear of fractures, but both were still badly injured. They gave me a new neck-brace to wear for the next couple of weeks, an ice pack for my face, and some medicine. To make sure I reacted okay to the meds, they left me alone for an hour or so. My heart rate wouldn't go down so they did an ultrasound to make sure I didn't have any internal bleeding. When that was clear I had the approval to be dismissed.
At 10:00 we finally left the hospital and headed home.
Sleeping in a neck brace is hard. Seeing with one eye is hard. Laying in bed all day is hard. BUT I am so grateful that a sprained neck, a sprained wrist, a swollen eye and face, and a bruised body is all that it is. It could have been soooo much worse.
I have had so many sweet texts, phone calls, emails, flowers, visits, and messages today. Thank you to all of you and your thoughts and prayers. I wouldn't be able to be so positive without you guys. Love you!
11-13-13 DAY OF FIRSTS:
First ambulance ride
First hospital stay for me
First ER visit for me
First CT scan
First Ultrasound

Oh, my goodness, Caley! That's so crazy that happened, and I'm so sorry! I would be so shaken up from that. I hope you get better quick. Thank goodness for no serious physical damage. I definitely understand how hard it is to be a pedestrian in Utah. People don't watch at all, and can be really rude.
ReplyDeleteYou're in YW? I was just called as the 1st counselor in the YW presidency a few months ago. What's your calling? How do you like it?
I'm SOOOO glad you're okay. Love you, Porter! :)
