THE FIRST OF MANY FIRSTS

It's only Tuesday and I have checked off so many "firsts" already, it's unfathomable.

Let's start with driving to downtown Salt Lake in morning rush hour.  I've only driven there by myself one time before (for my interview in the middle of the day) and this second time was much less fun. I expected it to be a nightmare...it's wasn't.

It was more like, when you sense something bad is going to happen so you hold your breath.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure I held my breath for the full 40 minute drive there. I was so light headed after stepping out of the elevator from the parking garage that I had to literally stop and take a few breaths of fresh, cool, morning air. City traffic is rough for a country, Idaho girl like me. ;)

After visiting HR and figuring out my W4 (don't know why that stupid thing is so hard for me!),
I journeyed up to the 10th floor to meet my peeps. It was fun to see so many faces from my school days! My trainer, Danielle - aka the girl with big shoes that I'm replacing, took me on a tour of the church office building. We visited two basement levels, the main level, and our home on the 10th floor.
All I can say is that building is it's own little city. Not even kidding...they actually have their own zip code.

I got settled into our little intern cubical space and began the training proces. 90% of my work will be requisitions, po's, paper work, and emails to help keep my designer organized. 10% will be design work, for example: selecting a new fabric for a bench that's wearing out, ordering a new rug, extra fabric for a sofa, etc... It's fun looking at floor plans from temples all over the world. I'm excited to meet new people, vendors, and spend my time making some of my favorite buildings a little bit better.

Today, I got to check something off my bucket-list: ride on a train. That's right. I'm a front-runner-er. I get to catch the commuter train at 6:42am in Ogden and read, snooze, or watch the sun rise on my way to work. It's waaaaay better than driving. I quite enjoyed it actually. The guy I was sitting by helped me figure out the in's and out's of the front runner and trax system. And thanks to the map printed and highlighted by my husband, I made it with no delay! I even rode on the 2nd level on the way home. It's the perfect time to unwind from work, read, relax, and gain some energy back for the evening.

I think I'm going to like it. Even if it's a 12 hour day and I have to go to bed with the sun to get up before it does the next day.

Guys, I'm a big city-girl now...and I like it!

  1. I kinda love public transportation. You don't have to do anything, and then you're home. Glad you like your job so far! Seems perfect for you.

  2. That's so nice you can take the front runner! I was driving to Salt Lake everyday and that drive gets to you, I missed Idaho traffic on days I was stuck in traffic. Your jobs sounds soo fun too!
