I think I'd survive if we ever move to Hungary...

(Not saying that we are, but if we had the chance, I'm not saying we wouldn't consider it...)

Anyway, Saturday was supposed to be our day date to Estes Park, but the weather did not want to play nice (first day of no sunshine since we've been here, ugh) so we decided to head to Denver for the afternoon. It turned out to be a great idea!

We did some errands, some shopping, then Urban Spoon-ed a Hungarian restaurant (Thomas lived in Hungary for 2 years as a LDS missionary before we got married.)...and sure enough, there was one: Budapest Bistro! Ohmyfreakinggoodness, it was amazing! Thomas has told me dozens of times about how great Hungarian food is, and I wasn't let down in the least bit!
It was a little west of downtown Denver in the cutest, old-town area! The architecture was beautiful as well as the colors and details!

Cute bistro, huh! Just after we were sat, a cute, older couple came in. We're about 99% sure that they were real Hungarians. Ah yeah! See her awesome hair through the center arch? It was fun!

So, we started out with the Langos, a puffy, fried, garlic bread. It reminded me of tiger ears at the fair, except these were covered in butter, salt, and garlic and dipped in sour cream (they dip/put everything in sour cream here!) They were surprisingly delicious though!
Then came the entries!! Thomas ordered the Stuffed Cabbage: brown ground turkey and rice marinated in cabbage leaves with sauerkraut in paprika cream sauce, over potatoes and sour cream. (He said that this was one of his favorite meals in Hungary and it tasted verrrry similar to what he ate there.)
I ordered the Chicken Paprikash: cubed chicken breast simmered in a rich paprika cream sauce, spatzels, and vegetables. Spatzels are the hand-made, curly, melt-in-your-mouth noodles. It was to die for! Although we switched plates a couple times to try each other's food, I had to watch him carefully as he would try and sneak more bites from my plate. Seriously. It was amazing. I've craved it almost every hour since. Even in my sleep. ;)
Enjoying our food and each other's company!

Last but not least...DESSERT! We had to do it. Everything up to that point was amazing. We couldn't stop there. We shared the Sweet Cheese Palascinta: crepe filled with a sweet blend of cream cheese, raisins, lemon zest, and warm vanilla sauce. It was heaven!
We stuffed ourselves to the max and promised that we'd stop in one more time before our Colorado stay was over. Next time we'll give ourselves some more time to check out the adorable main street shops too!
Until next time Budapest Bistro, koszonom, es viszlat!
