As I mentioned earlier, my grandfather grew up near Preston, Idaho in a place called Cub River. My grandma said that they owned to tops of all the hills around the homestead. Here is a photo from a couple miles away. The homestead is in that group of trees near the middle of the photo, so the land they once owned is pretty much everything you see here.
Isn't it beautiful? Those yellow patches are all wild sunflowers!
(below)
The front of the home. In front of the biggest hole on the left was once a porch that went across the entire front of the house. The front door was off to the right of the porch, the kitchen area through the left big whole and the entry/living area on the right.
I'm not sure what happened to this side of the home, but the colors are cool!
The foundation...
A peak into the kitchen area
The front door...
The ceiling of the living room. Even though they were very poor, They still took the time for the details. Notice the transom window above the door? {I really wanted to take the header piece off that doorway and make something cool out of it.)
I found remnants of wallpaper in the living room...
The neat arched hallway that lead from the living room to the parent's room.
The parent's room. You can still see the yellow and blue paint.
Here is the view from the top of the stairs. There were 14 kids in my grandfather's family, he was one of the many middle children. All the kids slept upstairs divided between the 3 small bedrooms.
Their old barn and storage sheds.
I've very grateful for the chance to see a part of my family's history. It means so much when you know that it's apart of you! Hope you enjoyed all the photos. I took A LOT and had to stop myself from putting dozens on here. I don't know if it's because I've studied houses, but I found the home fascinating and couldn't help but take a lot of photos. I have missed my grandpa a lot these past few years, but I could feel his spirit and love as the entire family was there. There's nothing in this world like family.

Great photos Caley! It's amazing that the house is still there for you to walk through. I loved the wallpaper!

ReplyDeleteWhat a cool old house. I love exploring homes like that. After seeing the foundation I think I know why it was falling forward though. :)
