I'm sure we have all had those instances in life when something "clicks" and changes us for the better. One that has changed me happened last year in a New Testament class. Each class was wonderful, but this particular one changed my perspective on my life forever.
We were studying the last week of Christ's life and were discussing the last supper. We turned to Matthew 26 and read verses 21 & 22: "And as they did eat, he said, Verily I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me. And they were exceedingly sorrowful, and began every one of them to say until him, Lord, is it I?"
My professor then explained how Christ-like the apostles were. Most of us, in that instance would have probably turned to our neighbor and began whispering about who it might be. But, instead, they looked inside themselves and thought about the intentions of their own hearts. They weren't judging the others, only judging themselves. Just as the apostles, we have no right to judge others. We are not perfect, we have no idea the circumstances someone might be in or going through, nor do we know the desires of their hearts.
Since that class I have almost daily remembered the phrase "Lord, is it I", "Is it I that is at fault and can be doing better?" "Is it I that is being selfish and judgmental?" These kinds of thoughts have not only helped me stopped judging others, but helped me to become a better person in all aspects of my life.
I hope on this sabbath day that you take a moment to analyze the desires of your heart and make goals to become who you really are, a divine and beautiful child of God.
what a great post! Thanks Caley for the inspiring thoughts.
ReplyDeleteThis was a great post Caley. I really loved your thoughts. I was thinking yesterday that the reason the Savior was able to treat everyone He encountered so differently is because He SAW them differently, the way they really were. Thanks for your thoughts. xo
